ACS Omaha Section Strategic Planning Retreat

ACS Omaha section will be hosting a 1.5-day ACS Strategic Planning Retreat (ACS SPR) on 13-14th August 2022. ACS SPRs will be a great opportunity for our local section to define and improve on the mission and vison statements and develop an actionable set of strategies for the section. The goals and desired outcomes from the retreat are listed below:

  • Goal 1: To create a short- and long-term planning document for the Omaha section leadership focusing on improving the involvement and participation of its members. We will focus on strategic plans on connecting with the members, engaging them in sections activities and in the governance of the section.
  • Goal 2: To create a plan/ process which fosters teamwork and collaboration between Omaha section and Younger Chemists Committee (LSYCC). The goal will be to plan ways of supporting the YCC in expanding their reach/activities and engage them in Omaha section’s planned activities.
  • Goal 3: To invigorate leadership and design strategies for community outreach programs and activities. During the retreat we will discuss plans regarding developing and implementing new resources/technologies to support, evaluate, and sustain these outreach programs. We need to have solid plan for encouraging participation in community outreach programs through recruitment, retention, and recognition of volunteers.
  • Goal 4: To enhance diversity, inclusion, and respect within leadership and among members of the section. “Diversity, Inclusion, and Respect,” is one of the American Chemical Society’s four core values and the goal of the retreat will be to identify ways to ensure our community is a welcoming place for everyone seeking to improve people’s lives through the transforming power of chemistry. This goal will also help us to focus on identifying and dismantling barriers to success and create a welcoming and supportive environment for all ACS members, employees, and volunteers to thrive.

ACS Omaha section’s member participation will be very helpful as the retreat will be a wonderful opportunity for the section to develop an actionable customized strategic plan. Agenda and hourly schedule will be shared soon.

Kindly email Dr. Dunesh Kumari, Chair ACS Omaha section at DKumari@csm.edu if you are interested in participating in the event or have any questions.
