ACS Omaha supports MSEF2025

Continuing a multi-year tradition, the Omaha Section of ACS supported this year’s Metro Science and Engineering Fair. This year, MSEF had a total of 232 presentations, with 33 chemistry-related projects: 12 in senior division and 21 in junior division.

The winners were:

Junior division: 1st place – Can Lime Save Time Slowing Down Apple Oxidation by Mathias Petersen, 2nd place – Testing for Unsaturated Fats in Chips by Jozlyn Gordon.

Senior Division: 1st place – Dolutegravir Inhibition of Cholinergic Enzymes in the Maternal Brain: Implications for Neuropsychiatric Symptoms by Anushka Sajja, 2nd place – Liver-Derived Megakaryocyte Display Innate Immune Cell Behaviors During Neonatal Anemia by Pranavi Prakash.

Honorable mentions: Junior Honorable Mention – O2 for Every Hue by Anna Dickerson, Gummy Bears Growing Up by Mandy Lao, Granular vs. Powder Activated Carbon by Tifferi Phillips; Senior Honorable Mentions – Ketogenic Diet Enhances Synaptic Plasticity and Reduces Epileptic Seizures in Mutant Drosophila melanogaster by Emily Alison and Chitin Synthesis Is Essential for the Process of Molting in Insects by Shradha Mamilla.

The winners in both divisions were awarded with a $50 cash prize and the ACS beaker mug, and the runner-ups were awarded with a $25 cash prize and the ACS beaker mug. Honorable Mentions were awarded with the ACS beaker mugs.
